CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

After Wednesday's historic announcement of the United States renewing diplomatic ties with Cuba after more than 50 years, the possibility of travel to the Communist island nation could be a reality.

But just 18 months ago, in June 0f 2013, the Chattanooga Boys Choir traveled to Havana, Cuba as invited guests of the Cuban Ministry of Culture to share in an exchange of music and culture.

The trip included more than 30 choir members.

The group performed with the Cantoría Infantil and the Cantoría Juvenil del Coro Nacional, working with Digna Guerra, and concerts in Havana's Museo de la Revolución (National Museum of Revolution), Iglesia de Paula (Church of St. Paul), and Sala de Conciertos de la Biblioteca (National Library).

Vincent Oakes, the Executive / Artistic Director of the Chattanooga Boys Choir said "I am proud that the Chattanooga Boys Choir was at the forefront of this thaw in diplomatic policy. Chattanooga should be proud to have a legion of young men who have witnessed firsthand the effects of the strained relationship between these two countries, and who will be able to fully appreciate the results of this historic action."
