Christmas Nights of Lights a huge success

Posted: Updated:
EAST RIDGE, TN (WRCB) - The Christmas Nights of Lights attraction has brought in lots of people from all over the region.

"We are probably at the number we thought we would see already and we're not even into the season yet," said Dodd King.

Ten thousand cars, carrying 30 thousand people total have come through the Christmas Nights of Lights at Camp Jordan, and locals say it's a hit.

"It's really neat to see what they put together. It took a lot of hard work," said Ashley Headrick.

King says they typically see a good turn out the first year they go to a new location, but nothing like what they've seen in Chattanooga.

But with the large crowds, comes traffic.

"It came back out to the interstate," said King.

While blocking traffic on main roads, it causes at times up to a 45-minute wait.

"We heard it was all the way down to Wally's," said Shanna Bailey.

Bailey and her family didn't want to get caught in a long line, so they avoided coming on a weekend.

"We came here tonight to try and beat the crowds," said Bailey.

King says the traffic isn't all bad though. “It slows everyone down and they get to enjoy the show."

Christmas Nights of Lights will be open daily from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. through the beginning of January.

    Amazing Weather Settling In

    Wednesday, August 23 2017 5:24 AM EDT2017-08-23 09:24:47 GMT

Good Wednesday.  Today is special because it marks the first day we see our average temperature start to recede.  The average high for yesterday's date was 90.  The average high for today's date is 89. As we progress through today we will notice our humidity levels dropping and skies clearing.  Temperatures will also be about 5 degrees lower than yesterday (93 was the high in Chattanooga Tuesday).  The bottom line: awesome weather is settling in.
