UPDATE: Victim identified in McMinn Co. crash

ETOWAH, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: A crash in McMinn County claimed the life of a 19-year-old.

It happened on Old Mecca Pike around 10:30 Sunday night.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a Toyota was attempting to turn left when the driver lost control.

The truck crashed into a tree and caught fire.

When first responders arrived, the car was fully engulfed in flames.

Close friends of the victim were at the crash scene Monday and say it was Cody Green who was killed.

"My mom called me this morning and told me," said Alex Walker, who said Green was one of his best friends. "I just dropped the phone. I couldn't believe it."

THP is investigating the crash.

An autopsy is being performed at UT Knoxville.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on Old Mecca Pike in Etowah.

THP says a Toyota was traveling east when the driver attempted to turn left and lost control. The car hit two trees before stopping and catching fire. 

The car was fully engulfed when first responders arrived. 

The driver was burned beyond recognition and has been sent to UT Knoxville for an autopsy and identification.
