NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A top economist told higher education officials they will have to find ways to cover rising costs at their institutions because the state won't have enough revenue to help them anytime soon.

Bill Fox is director of the University of Tennessee's Center for Business and Economic Research. He spoke at a meeting on Wednesday called by the Tennessee Board of Regents to discuss funding options.

Last week, higher education officials told Gov. Bill Haslam at a budget hearing that they'll be forced to continue raising tuition if the state doesn't provide adequate funding to help with costs.

Fox told the board on Wednesday that state government will have very little revenue growth for the foreseeable future and that higher education institutions will have to be creative in raising money and make better use of its current resources.
