Crowds flock to Chattanooga for holiday attractions

Posted: Updated:

It doesn't matter if you're lacing up to hit the ice or walking through a garden of twinkling lights, crowds are flocking to Chattanooga this holiday season.

“Families are really looking for a way to get out together, to spend time together,” Rock City President Susan Harris said.

Channel 3 wanted to see if newer attractions—like Ice on the Landing and Christmas Nights of Lights—are pulling crowds away from traditional ones—like the Enchanted Garden Lights at Rock City.

Channel 3 found out all three are seeing better numbers than originally projected.

“We think that the other attractions benefit us and they benefit each other. We think that it all works together,” Harris said.

“We've exceeded our projections. We've had about 6,000 people come through [Ice on the Landing] already, which we're delighted with,” Chattanooga Presents Owner Carla Pritchard said.

Christmas Nights of Lights at Camp Jordan have seen more than 9,000 car loads of people ready to ride through the Christmas wonderland.

Harris believes more locals are visiting the newer attractions while folks from around the region come to Rock City for a one of a kind experience.

“We have a lot of people who return to visit the Enchanted Garden Lights every year and I would hope that they get downtown and visit Ice on the Landing and they would benefit from some of the visitors that we bring to the mountain every year,” she said.

With just a couple weeks left of the holiday season, organizers are gearing up for their biggest crowds ready to make new memories.

“Certainly my family and a lot of others like to fit in as much as they can this season, there's so much going on. So why not take advantage of it?” Pritchard said.
