UGA climatologist says November among coldest ever

Posted: Updated:

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - A University of Georgia climate expert says last month turned out to be one of the five coldest Novembers on record for much of the state.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1BoFxZY ) average temperatures for many Georgia cities last month were 5 to 6.7 degrees colder than normal. The National Weather Service reports Atlanta, Augusta and Macon all had average temperatures hovering around a chilly 49 degrees. In Athens the average was 48.1.

Pam Knox, UGA's agricultural climatologist, said November also had some strangely warm temperatures too. Savannah, for example, saw its coldest Nov. 19 on record with a low of 28 degrees. Less than a week later, on Nov. 14, the temperature reached 83 - a record high for Savannah on that date.
