Chattanooga firefighters responded to a structure fire around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon on Tunnel Boulevard.

Fire investigators tell Channel 3 light smoke was showing when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.

The house had been converted into two apartment units. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to the kitchen in the front apartment unit. The rest of the apartment had some smoke damage.

The dollar loss was estimated at $10,000.

Everyone got out of their apartments, but as a precaution, two of the occupants were checked out by paramedics with Hamilton County EMS.

None of them required transport to the hospital.

Investigators tell Channel 3, the cause of the fire will be ruled accidental and that food left unattended on the stove was the likely cause of this fire.

The fire damaged the wiring, so power to the building had to be disconnected.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the four people displaced by this fire.
