CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - The Chattanooga Bass Association is a regional tradition that began 38 years ago, and has grown into a premier amateur team fishing trail on Lake Chickamauga. The officers of the CBA have decided to embark on a new tradition that will be carried on for years to come, the Annual CBA High School Fishing Championship.

The format will be similar to that of a regular season high school Bass fishing tournament. The schools will be competing for the Championship Cup that the winning school will retain in their trophy case on campus until next season, where the school will then have to defend the cup.

There will also be a wildcard factor to this event. Each high school team will draw a specific number of CBA members (2-3) that the coach of the team will assign to the teams of his choosing. That CBA member would accompany the boat driver and both anglers for the duration of the event.

The purpose of this event is two-fold. First, the CBA will provide the big tournament experience for these young anglers, strong competition, and bragging rights for the entire season. Second, this tournament will serve as a benefit tournament for the participating high schools to . The CBA is working with regional and national sponsors to raise funds for this event. The proceeds that are raised will be distributed to each school to help offset expenses for the season. The amount each school will receive will be based on a percentage for the number of teams each school has participating.

CBA President, Shane Frazier says" I am very excited about this event and being able to give these young anglers a big tournament experience that most of them haven't been able to experience, while also providing monetary benefit to their teams. Fishing isn't a cheap sport, and the financial burden falls on these parents and volunteers that donate there time, equipment, and money. Our goal is to help offset some of those costs through this event."

The 1st annual event will be held this Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Chester Frost. Tournament hours will be from safelight until 1PM.
There will be a mandatory meeting at Sportsman's Warehouse out at the pavillion at 6PM on Friday, April 24th. At least one member of the team must be present at this meeting. This is where you will draw your boat number and pick up your sign-up bag. Food will be provided compliments of Little Ceaser's Pizza.
