CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -
More than half of all Americans are predicted to shop on Cyber Monday and Chattanooga's Amazon Fulfillment Center is readying for a big day.
The company is adding almost 80,000 seasonal jobs as it predicts this will be the best online shopping season to date.
"Last year we had 426 items ordered per second, that's more than 38 million worldwide," said Amazon Spokeswoman Rena Lunak. "You can feel the energy in the air on Cyber Monday. People know this is our biggest holiday."
Amazon just recorded its busiest ever sales day on Black Friday. Lunak said mobile users add a big boost to Cyber Monday.
"No longer do you have to be at your computer which is how Cyber Monday really began," Lunak said. "It was get back from Black Friday, get on your computer and look at all these deals. Now you can do it from anywhere."
Amazon has more than 50 fulfillment centers in the U.S. where associates pick, pack and ship customer orders.
