Lady Mocs hit road for Arkansas State

CHATTANOOGA,TN ( back-to-back thrilling home court victories, the Mocs will hit the road for a three-game stretch beginning with Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark., Monday, December 1 at 8:05 p.m. Eastern Time.


The Mocs are 4-2 overall with wins over Big East foes Villanova and Butler as well as instate rivals Austin Peay and No. 4 Tennessee of the SEC. After winning its season-opener against Villanova, the Mocs fell by two to South Florida, snapping a nation's-best 40-game home court win streak. Chattanooga's only other loss was to No. 3 Notre Dame in South Bend. Five different players have led the Mocs in scoring with Keiana Gilbert recording a team-best 27 points in the Mocs' win over the Lady Vols. Aryanna Gilbert led Chattanooga with 26 points just two days before in UTC's comeback win over Austin Peay. Keiana Gilbert leads the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game and has 12 steals on the year. Jasmine Joyner set a school record for blocked shots at Notre Dame with eight in the game and is just two shy of third all-time at UTC with 75. She is second on the team in scoring with an average 11.3 points per game and has a team-best 10.5 rebounds an outing. Chelsey Shumpert leads the team in assists (2.5) and steals (2.2) and is third on the team in scoring with 9.2 points per game.


After opening the season with a win over Jackson State in the Preseason WNIT, the Red Wolves fell to Mississippi State (93-83) and Colorado (80-69) in its next two games of the tournament. On Friday, Arkansas State trumped Christian Brothers by a 40-point margin to return to the win column. Aundrea Gamble leads four Red Wolves in double figures with 20.3 points per game. She has 5.3 rebounds and 19 assists. Khadija Brown-Haywood is second on the team with 12.3 points per game while Amanda Lawson, with a team-best 6.0 rebounds per game is third in scoring with 10.8 ppg. Hannah Qedan has eight steals and 10.5 points per game. Arkansas State is outscoring opponents 80.8 – 68.0, a 12.8 point margin and holds a 2.8 advantage on the boards.


This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
