Teen sentenced for role in counterfeiting scheme

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The fourth member of a five-person counterfeiting scheme in Kingsport has been sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison.

The Kingsport Times-News reported (http://bit.ly/11EuyMB ) that 19-year-old Tyler Monroe was also placed on supervised release for three years. A federal judge in Greeneville handed down the sentence on Tuesday.

Monroe was one of five people indicted by a federal grand jury in February on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States and possessing counterfeit money. The other defendants received sentences from a year in prison to 33 months in prison.

One co-defendant has yet to be sentenced.

The group had been charged with making fake $5 and $20 bills and passing them at stores and using the fake bills in drug deals.
