EVENSVILLE, TN (WRCB)---Thanksgiving was a working holiday for Rhea County's Golden Eagles and a few other area prep football teams who are still alive in the TSSAA playoffs.
In Evensville, Rhea County spent much of the afternoon getting ready for Knox West, as the Eagles face the 12-1 Rebels in the semifinal bracket. Rhea County is unbeaten at 13-0, but it hasn't been as easy as their winning margins might suggest. Starting quarterback Daniel Dotson got the job fulltime in week five, when senior Austin Thurman quit the team. But the Eagles' offense never skipped a beat, Rhea County Head Coach Mark Pemberton credits Dotson for the smooth transition under center. " He manages our football team really well, smart kid,, very positive, you know even if he makes a mistake he's a positive kid on the sideline, he's a winner," says Pemberton. " Daniel has done a fantastic job coming in, he busted his but all off-season, preparing," adds Zac Daoust. " For me, it was difficult starting out but the guys made it a lot easier on me. The offensive line told me they got my back and they always have this season so I don't have to worry about getting hit or anything," says Dotson.
Kickoff is set for Friday at 7pm from Bill Horton Field and we'll have your wrap-up live on Channel 3's Friday Night Football at 11.
Other area teams still in play are Notre Dame who host Alcoa and Marion County who welcome Alcoa's Hurricanes to Jasper.
