State parks open Thanksgiving, Christmas, Jan. 1

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgians are invited to walk off their holiday overindulgences with a hike at a state park.

The state Department of Natural Resources says all of Georgia's state parks are open Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Many of the park staff members will be off enjoying the holidays with their families, but the entrances will be open.

Visitors are encouraged to enjoy hiking trails that include paved paths to challenging treks.

For those who resolve to be healthier in the new year, almost all Georgia state parks offer guided "First Day Hikes."
