WALKER COUNTY, GA -

A family is without a home on Thanksgiving after an early morning fire.

Firefighters in Walker County responded to a fire on Kaufman Road just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

"All the occupants were in the house and asleep," said Walker County Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief James Yearout. "The owner advised that he woke up and found the fire on the front porch and got his family out fairly quickly."

One man suffered minor burns to the shoulder. No one else was injured.

The home is completely destroyed. Two vehicles parked near by were also a complete loss.

Fire crews were also busy battling hot spots in the surrounding woods where fire spread to the leaves, trees and brush.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
