Wednesday marks one of the busiest travel days of the year. AAA predicts more travelers this Thanksgiving since 2007.

With gas prices down and travel numbers up, law enforcement agencies are preparing for a busy weekend on the roadways.

Lieutenant John Harmon with the Tennessee Highway Patrol reminds drivers to buckle up, don't drink and drive and avoid distractions. He said there will be increased trooper visibility this travel weekend.

"You can expect a Tennessee state trooper on I-74 and I-24 every 5-10 miles today and through Sunday," said Harmon. "We want every family to make it home to their families this holiday season."

Sunday will be the busiest travel day during the 120-hour holiday period.

The THP District 2 troopers will have checkpoints at the following locations at night:

  • Friday, Nov. 28: McMinn County, Hwy 11 @ S.T. 309
  • Saturday, Nov. 29: Marion County, S.R. 28 @ Jones Crossing
  • Saturday, Nov. 29: Hamilton County, Hixson Pike (1300 Block)
