CHATTANOOGA,TN (WRCB)-- Notre Dame's Alex Darras threw four touchdown passes in the first half alone as the Fightin' Irish advance in the TSSAA football playoffs with a 48-7 win over visiting McMinn Central Friday night.
The game was played at Finley Stadium instead of Notre Dame's Jim Eberle Field to a rather spartan crowd.
Irish Head Coach Charles Fant wanted his team to start fast and they did.
Auston Banks capping Notre Dame's opening possession with a 7 yard touchdown score for the lead they would never relinquish.
Then, junior signal caller Alex Darras had the hot hand, throwing consecutive touchdown passes to Anthony Flemister for a 20-0 Irish lead in just the first quarter.
McMinn Central would then dent the scoreboard with a Jackson Guy quarterback keeper, but that would be the Chargers' only points of the evening.
Darras then responded with a touchdown strikes to Kareem Orr and Patrick Johnson.
Notre Dame's Kealy Green made sure any McMinn Central rally would be short lived, picking off Jackson Guy twice in the second half to halt Charger drives, Green's second pick off he took all the way back for Notre Dame's final score.
Afterward, Notre Dame's coaching staff told the players they will face Alcoa next Friday, meaning the Thanksgiving holiday will be a working one for the Irish.
