McMinn County High School Marching Cherokees

Posted: Updated:

The Marching Cherokees of McMinn County High School have a bit of a wonderfully rare situation in that they are lead by husband and wife band directors, Abbie and Andrew Headrick. Originally from Kingston and Maryville, respectively, and former members of the University of Tennessee Pride of the Southland Band, their Volunteer State roots run deep.

For the Headrick's fifth year at McMinn, they chose a halftime show they entitled Take Me to Mars, featuring the music of Bruno Mars. It was certainly a hit with the students! This group of 70 played all home and away games and had great showings in three competitions at Karnes, Sequoyah, and Heritage High Schools.

With only a few seniors to graduate at the end of the school year, the Marching Cherokees are looking forward to a growth spurt through the next few seasons. With greater numbers, as their experience grows, look for good things coming from Athens, Tennessee. They have a great sound, right now! Drum Major Blake Thompson helps introduce the group as they play Runaway Baby. Enjoy the McMinn County High School Marching Cherokees, our Channel 3 Friday Night Football band of the Week!
