CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Some local schools are getting creative when it comes to raising money and collecting turkeys for the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.

Students at the Girls Preparatory School Friday morning organized the 3rd annual "Turkey Train," passing hundreds of turkeys from one end of the school to the other, and eventually loading them up in the food bank truck.

"The food bank is very essential to our area and just knowing that they can have a Thanksgiving dinner, that's going to mean a lot to them," said Senior Mackenzie Hobbs.

"This event that we're having this year is raising so much awareness and just really uniting the school for a really great cause," said Junior Rachel Raisin.

The 600 girls at GPS collected 192 turkeys and raised more than $200.
