An ambulance rushed V. Whitehead to Memorial Hospital with chest pains, forcing her to leave her best friend Jack behind.
When she arrived at the ER, the 70-year old learned she needed open heart surgery. Her first thought was not about her heart but on her 4-legged friend.
The hospital promised they would make sure everyone including V's Jack Russell terrier was taken care of. Two nurses went to check up on Jack with a Chattanooga Police officer.
The vet clinic “Wally's Friends” agreed to watch Jack until his owner recovered.
When the dog arrived, they noticed the 2-year old dog wasn't spunky after performing a routine check. He needed 8 teeth pulled. The clinic owner ended up watching and caring for Jack, free of charge.
Nurses and doctors at Memorial Hospital started a collection when they found out V was having a hard time paying for her bill and food.
Eileen from Wally's Friends says, “Everyone wanted V to recover without the stress thinking about how she was going to pay for everything. She doesn't have any family to look out for her, so we wanted to be there for her. When we told her how we were going to help, she cried. I wish we could do more for her.”
