Two men arrested after pursuit in Bradley County

BRADLEY COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -  Officials with Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Bradley County Sheriff's Officer look for evidence inside a Dodge Charger.

“Those types of criminals don't care for other people's safety,” Sheriff Eric Watson said.

Watson says it all started when a trooper noticed the smell of pot during a traffic stop on I-75 North at mile marker 16.

That's when the driver and passenger took off leading a pursuit through Exit 20 in Cleveland and onto South Lee Highway.

Troopers were forced to call off the pursuit—Watson says it's protocol when there's a lot of traffic on the road and the chase would put other drivers in danger.

“It's very dangerous to pursue a suspect in high traffic volume areas, it's a huge liability on the officer as well as the party that's doing in,” he added.

The two men kept going reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour before crashing into a white car. The driver was not hurt.
Despite having a flat tire, the pair kept going and crashed a second time.

“One of the subjects stayed in the car, and the driver took off running and ran about two miles in the woods and one of our deputy sheriff's caught him,” Watson added.

Both men are facing a number of charges including reckless endangerment and drug charges.

Watson says the car the men were in was an out of state rental car that was supposed to be returned two weeks ago.

Deputies are still working to positively identify both men after they gave fake names to deputies.
