A police spokesman on Wednesday said there “was a large gathering” of people at the South Knoxville apartment complex where a 19-year-old woman reported she was raped by two University of Tennessee football players.
Among the group of people were other UT athletes, said Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk. DeBusk, however, declined to say if the athletes included other football players.
A 19-year-old University of Tennessee student told Knoxville police that football players A.J. Johnson (left) and Michael Williams raped her, according to an incident report released Tuesday.
Football coach Butch Jones on Monday suspended Johnson and Williams from all team activities. Jones on Wednesday declined to comment when asked if he had spoken to other players present when the alleged rape occurred or if any of them faced disciplinary action.
