Santa makes special time for special friends

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Many children with disabilities are unable to participate in something as simple as sitting on Santa's lap.

But Santa is changing that. He's now coming in early to the Hamilton Place Mall to make sure his special friends get a little special attention.

The mall is allowing families to come into the mall before it opens, so kids with special needs can have 15-minutes of one-on-one time with Santa without other distractions like long lines and loud noises. For some kids, it's the only way they can come.

"It's really the whole family not just the child because it prohibits them from doing things sometimes, so by doing something like this you're not just helping the child you're helping the whole family," said Catharine Wells, Hamilton Place Mall Spokesperson.

It gives the family that special picture with Santa that they've always wanted.

"The smiles on those faces, it's amazing," said Wells.

Because the Santa Cares event has been so popular, it has been extended through the first week of December.

Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to make an appointment up to three days in advance.
