KNOXVILLE (WBIR) -
UPDATED -- The University of Tennessee confirms that linebacker A.J. Johnson and defensive back Michael Williams have been suspended from all team activities. The Knoxville Police Department hasn't yet charged Johnson or Williams but they remain suspects in a rape and sexual assault investigation.
Sources have told Knoxville NBC affiliate WBIR that Tennessee linebacker A.J. Johnson is a suspect in a rape and sexual assault case.
Knoxville police said the incident happened at the Woodlands Apartment Complex at Cherokee Woods Way early Sunday morning.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, Knoxville police responded to White Avenue to investigate rape and assault allegations reported by two 19-year-old women. One of the victims told police that two men raped her. The other victim said she was sexually assaulted. Crews took both women to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Police said one of the victims is a UT student. The other victim was visiting a friend in Knoxville and has since returned home to Florida. The out-of-state victim has decided not to press charges at this time.
Investigators conducted a search warrant on the Woodlands apartment on Sunday night.
Police confirmed they haven't charged Johnson and the other man at this time.
