CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: A multiple-vehicle crash closed all lanes of U.S. 27 northbound near the Interstate 24/U.S. 27 junction near downtown Chattanooga for several hours Monday morning.

The roadway has now been re-opened.

Early reports are that a semi-trailer and and a passenger vehicles were involved. A secondary accident, unrelated to the first, complicated matters even more.

One vehicle struck the concrete barriers with such force it sent huge chunks of concrete to the street below the overpass.

The motorist in one vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital for examination and treatment after being extricated from the vehicle by emergency workers.

TDOT workers are helping to clean up the debris and oil on U.S. 27 and nearby roadways.
