CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - UPDATE: Chattanooga Police say that Dayjour Brown has been found and is back with his family.

"They call it the swag, the thing to do, that's what they join a gang," Pamela Davis, SRO Officer.

Officer Pamela Davis' first priority is to keep the halls of Howard High School safe. She's also a mentor to keep students off the streets

"Kids are left unattended, so they start hanging with gang members and they like what they see," said Davis.

That's why Davis was extra worried about a missing teen on Friday morning, a teen who doesn't even attend her school.

"Some people get killed trying to get out of a gang," said Davis.

The mother of 13-year-old Dayjour Brown reported him missing because he'd recently become friends with local gang members.

"From talking to gangs they have to get beat out of them," said Davis.

Davis says students who are looking for attention will find it in a gang.

"But when they realize when they join its not what it is cut out to be they want out," said Davis.

Davis says, some gangs wont let members go without a fist-fight.

The Chattanooga Gang Unit says parents can be mindful to help them combat crime

"Go onto their Twitter or their Facebook. Most kids like to take pictures of themselves throwing gang signs," said Davis.

Monitor their social media and what they buy.

"If they are wearing red or blue that's a sign," said Davis.

And if you are having trouble with your teenager and feel they need tough love, CPD will be more than happy to help.

"The gang unit will come out and speak to you, if you have an SRO at the school talk to the SRO," said Davis.

SRO's are available to talk to teens at the school or you can call CPD and have a gang unit member stop by your house. Their number is 423-698-2525.
