Dalton police join in national "Click It or Ticket" safety campaign
DALTON, GA (WRCB) -
If you plan on traveling this holiday season, you're not alone. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel periods of year, which unfortunately brings a rise in the rate of roadway crashes and fatalities.
Last year, 14 people were killed in crashes on Georgia's roads over Thanksgiving weekend.
In an effort to make this Thanksgiving the safest yet on Georgia's roads, the Dalton Police Department will be joining police nationwide in the Click It Or Ticket campaign.
Beginning November 17th through November 30th, officers will be cracking down on motorists to buckle up.
Here are a few more safety tips from the National Safety Council to ensure a safer Thanksgiving holiday weekend:
Refrain from all cell phone use behind the wheel
Make sure all passengers are buckled up and children are in age-appropriate safety seats
All children 12 and under should always be in the back seat
Allow plenty of travel time to avoid frustration and diminish the impulse to speed
Drive defensively and exercise caution, especially during inclement weather
Avoid driving while drowsy
Designate a “non-drinking” driver – even moderate consumption of alcohol impairs reaction time and driving judgment
