Troops from Southeast embark for Ebola fight

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - About 100 soldiers from bases in North Carolina and Georgia are on their way to West Africa to help in the fight against Ebola.

Area media outlets report the troops left from Fort Bragg on Monday.

The troops included member of units from Fort Bragg as well as from Fort Gordon and Fort Stewart in Georgia. They are going to help in the battle against the disease in what the military is calling Operation United Assistance.

It's the first deployment for the operation from Fort Bragg.

Officials say that all previous Army deployments for the mission have left from Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
