Trion fatal fire ruled accidental

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -  Insurance and Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens ruled the cause of a fire that left two people dead in Chattooga County accidental.

The fire call came in at 5:04 Monday morning.

Hudgens tells Channel 3, a home at 71 9th Street in Trion, was destroyed by the fire caused by an electrical malfunction with a space heater.

The bodies of 22-year-old Christian Pruitt and 50-year-old Fladio Cornejo Lopez have been sent to the GBI crime lab in DeKalb County for an autopsy.

“With this tragedy in Trion, we now have 94 fire deaths so far this year. I urge Georgian to use extreme caution while heating their homes,” said Hudgens.

Commissioner Hudgens also wants to remind Georgians to make sure they have working smoke alarms in their home.
