TDOT project to close South Crest Road Bridge for several months

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Beginning Wednesday, November 12, the Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close the South Crest Road Bridge in Chattanooga for several months over I-24 and East Main Street as a major repair project gets underway.

The section of East Main Street beneath the South Crest Road Bridge will also be closed while the bridge deck on the portion of the bridge directly overhead is removed and replaced.

This portion of the project is scheduled to be completed by next spring, at which time East Main Street will be reopened to traffic. During the construction, the entire bridge deck, parapets, and bridge joints will be removed and replaced.

Additionally, there will be times during the project when work will require temporary lane closures on I-24 beneath the South Crest Road Bridge. These interstate lane closures will only be allowed at nighttime on Sundays through Thursdays between the hours of 10 p.m.- 5 a.m.

The contractor for the $1.6 million bridge repair project is Mid-State Construction Company, Inc. of Livingston, Tennessee.  The project completion date is on or before August 31, 2015.
