Another Charger possession ends in a punt, this time they get it off but Jared Andrews picks up the bouncing ball and stars a running, a juke begets a couple of down field blocks and 85 yards later it's 27 nothing Notre Dame.
The Charger offense finally finds it's groove late in the first, a Matt Mercer shovel pass to Zach Mercer sets the table for Matt Mercer to Philip Sneller, but Notre Dame is too fast and deep for CCS. Irish big 55-14 the final.
"It's not the way we wanted it to end but I'm proud of our players I'm proud of our football team, we competed we gave our best effort tonight wenayed without a lot of our starters tonight, there were a lot of injuries this week and I'm really proud of the kids who played tonight, all 37 of them, " said Chargers Head Coach Rob Spence afterward.
" For the past few weeks, we've been challenging our team to play as hard as you can, play that first play and for my last 3 years here, we always have a slow start and with the first quarter, but this team right here, I think they're a little bit different and get after it really really early and it felt really good," said a triumphant Charles Fant.
Notre Dame running back Auston Banks earned WRCB's Player of the Game award, toting the ball 8 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns, he also had a touchdown reception.
The Irish advance to round two, Fant believing he'll have home field advantage.
