CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: Channel 3 has learned that Derek Yates has landed the job as Ellen's gardener on the "Ellen" Show.

Yate's friends and family will be on hand at a viewing party this afternoon to celebrate the news.

In a news release, Yates said “It is honestly a dream come true to be on Ellen’s show. I can’t help but feel good while watching her show, and now I get to be a part of that for her audience and viewers also."

Yates will be on Tuesday's show, which airs at 4:00pm on Channel 3.

Derek Yates sent in a video as part of a contest for the Ellen Show.  The winner will be featured on Ellen as her gardener. Channel 3 spoke to Derek Wednesday about his new found fame.  He describes it as completely unexpected.

Derek Yates, auditioned for Ellen, "Hey, Ellen is looking for a gardener, and I was like, okay, I'll do it. So I just randomly came up with a cool little idea and it was like 50 degrees outside when we shot, so I'm spraying myself with freezing trying to make it look good, and it's one of those things that you don't ever think will happen to you.  Then it starts getting shared, and suddenly you're on the Ellen Show."

Yates says the producers on the Ellen Show did not clarify if or when he'd hear back from them, but we wish him the best of luck.

Catch Ellen weekdays at 4:00 p.m. on Channel 3.

Good Wednesday.  Today is special because it marks the first day we see our average temperature start to recede.  The average high for yesterday's date was 90.  The average high for today's date is 89. As we progress through today we will notice our humidity levels dropping and skies clearing.  Temperatures will also be about 5 degrees lower than yesterday (93 was the high in Chattanooga Tuesday).  The bottom line: awesome weather is settling in.
