HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

Unofficial results from the Hamilton County Election Commission show there was strong voter turnout at the polls.

Issues such as abortion and midterm races for U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives ensured voters went to the polls. Some municipalities had options on ballots asking voters if wine should be sold in grocery stores.

In Hamilton County, 40 percent of the county's eligible 207,625 voters cast ballots in Tuesday's midterm election.

That means about 83 thousand people voted.

Compared to the 2010 midterm election, the turnout was slightly lower by nearly 2 percent.
