Dogs rescued from puppy mill treated in Atlanta

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Humane Society is treating 30 dogs that were rescued from an alleged puppy mill in Mississippi.

Veterinarian Dr. Gloria Dorsey tells WSB-TV ( ) the organization is hoping to get the dogs into adoptable condition. Humane Society officials say the dogs are part of a pack of more than 100 that were living in squalid conditions and were being bred for profit. Dorsey says many of the puppies were being sold at flea markets.

Dorsey said one of the dogs was living in a house with its deceased owner and some of the dogs were malnourished.

Dorsey says the dogs will be groomed, fed and examined before they're offered up for adoptions. Dorsey says it may take between seven and 10 days to prepare the dogs for adoption.
