Around 6 p.m. Saturday evening, the line to get inside started to concern many, like Angela Burton.
Some 75 people showed up within the first hour as volunteers signed-in one person at a time. They only had 40 cots and 50 blankets to hand out.Burton has been homeless for a year and is having a hard time, living on the streets and navigating around in a foot cast.
Even though she is down on her luck, Burton says,” it could be a lot worse outdoors tonight.”Thomas Ward is also thankful to have shelter for the night. Ward says, “if it wasn't for the Salvation Army, I would probably be sleeping under a bridge.”Pregnant women and young children were also on the list of those needing a warm place to stay.
The supplies are low. Volunteers will be accepting donations at the McCallie location in Chattanooga on Sunday.
