TDOT: Lane shifts and changes coming to U.S. 27 starting this weekend

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - As work continues on the U.S. 27 expansion project, the Tennessee Department of Transportation will shift some travel lanes to allow work to be safely done.

On the evenings of Friday, October 31 through Saturday, November 1 the entrance ramp from Dayton Blvd. to U.S. 27 South will be closed between 7;00pm-6:00am to install a high mast light.

On Monday evening, November 3, 2014, a major traffic shift will take place on the northbound side of U.S. 27.

Traffic on U.S. 27 North will be shifted to the newly-constructed lanes. This will begin at 7:00pm and end by 6:00am Tuesday morning, November 4, 2014.

Afterwards, TDOT says all the available lanes will not be immediately opened, but the new alignment should make it easier for motorists to negotiate their way through the project.

U.S. 27 North will be reduced to one lane from the Signal Mountain Road exit to the northern end of the expansion project for about three weeks to allow work to be completed on the median barrier wall.

Motorists traveling from U.S. 27 North to Signal Mountain Road will continue to exit normally.

The section of U.S. 27 North that will be reduced to one lane will be short, and it will only affect motorists going northbound toward Hixson and Soddy-Daisy.  Motorists should use caution and exercise patience as they adjust to the new traffic pattern.

TDOT estimates the project to be completed by February 2015.
