UPDATE: FAA officials have confirmed that four people are now dead, five are injured and four others remain unaccounted for in a Wichita plane crash Thursday at Wichita's Mid-Contential Airport.

(NBC News) - Emergency crews and police were rushing to an airport in Kansas after an airplane apparently plowed into a building. Video footage recorded at the Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita showed thick plumes of black smoke billowing from the scene of the apparent crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration says that the plane, a twin engine Beechcraft King Air, reported losing power just after takeoff and struck the Flight Safety Building while trying to return to the airport.

There's no word yet on the number of passengers aboard.

NBC affiliate KSN reported one person was in critical condition.

FAA investigators are on-site, and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified.
