Georgia Governor campaign brings Carter to Ringgold

RINGGOLD, GA (WRCB) - The countdown is on to Election Day and candidates are making the rounds. A candidate for Georgia Governor made a stop in Catoosa County Saturday.

Georgia Senator Jason Carter was met with cheers as he made a campaign stop stumping for votes in Ringgold on the steps of the Catoosa County Courthouse.

"All across the state, rural Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia, every where. It is looking for something new," he said.

Carter, grandson of former President and Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter, faces incumbent Republican Governor Nathan Deal and Libertarian candidate, Dr. Andrew Hunt.

Carter is focused on education reform.

"You also see what's happening in the schools out here and it's just a shame. And we know we can do better in our state. We also know that the middle class and small business is getting left behind," said Carter.

Deal is touting his success with job growth, with CNBC ranking Georgia the number one state to do business in. The three candidates recently faced off in a debate hosted by the Atlanta Press Club on Georgia Public Broadcasting:

"We have been in the top ten states in terms of job creation for the last two years. Last year, we were number six in the nation in terms of total new jobs," said Deal.

Hunt, the founder and former CEO of a nanotechnology company, says he wants to give voters another option and stop what he calls "big politics."

"That's the way it was in the founding of our country and that's the kind of roots we need to turn back to, smaller government. Less rules and regulations," said Hunt.

Recent polls show Carter with a slight lead over Deal. Election Day is November the 4th and early voting is already underway in Georgia.
