In Ga. Senate race, Ted Cruz stumps for Perdue
CANTON, Ga. (AP) - Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is in Georgia, rallying conservative support for businessman David Perdue as he works to keep a key Senate seat for Republicans.
Polls suggest a tight race between Perdue and Democrat Michelle Nunn with just over a week left before the Nov. 4 election. A Jan. 6 runoff is possible if neither candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote.
Cruz joined Perdue for Saturday campaign events in two key places - the northern outskirts of metro Atlanta and along the coast. At a church auditorium in Cherokee County, Cruz told the crowd that Nunn was looking to deceive voters with her message of independence.
Ahead of the visit, Nunn blasted Cruz as the architect of last year's government shutdown and criticized Perdue for supporting it.
