Crime Stoppers: Thief Walks Out with a Pressure Washer

Posted: Updated:

You may expect loss prevention officers have to deal with people stealing the little stuff, all the time. A candy bar, jewelry, even razor blades are locked down these days. But, if you see a guy walking out of a store, toting a huge box on his shoulder, one would assume he had paid for the item. This week, in this case...one would be wrong.

"You act like you know what you're doing and a lot of people a lot of times, people, they just don't pay attention," said Chattanooga Police Officer Tim McFarland. In a nutshell, that may be just what happened in this week's Crime Stoppers case.

Last Thursday at the Northgate Mall Sears store, in the middle of the day, two guys strolled in. They were apparently on a mission. The next time one of the guys was seen on surveillance, he had a big box on his shoulder. "(He) took a pressure washer that was still in the box and just walked out," Off. McFarland explained.

Yep. He casually moved through the store, to the exit doors, then out to the parking lot. There, he rejoined his partner. "They got into a 90's model Ford Taurus and left with an unknown driver," added McFarland.

This is a pretty bold theft. "If they're bold enough to do it in daylight and at a mall," said McFarland, "then, they may get even bolder and eventually try something else."

That is where you come in. Your information could help police round these guys up before they strike again. There is reward cash available. Check the pictures again, and check that getaway car. "The faces that we have on video should be good enough to maybe, possibly, identify somebody," McFarland said.

You will remain anonymous and up to $1,000 is on the table for your good tip.

Call Crime Stoppers: 698-3333

Remember, an officer may answer or return your call, but he will never ask your identity.
