No need for alarm: TVA to test emergency preparedness at Sequoyah
By WRCB Staff
SODDY DAISY, TN (WRCB) -
The Tennessee Valley Authority, along with federal, state and local emergency response agencies will conduct a routine emergency preparedness exercise at TVA's Sequoyah Nuclear Plant on Wednesday, October 22.
The series of emergency exercises are required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Wednesday's drill will involve nearly 1,000 personnel from TVA, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, and emergency responders from both Hamilton and Bradley counties.
Residents near the nuclear plant may see radiological monitoring teams, hear sirens and see an increase in activity around the Sequoyah plant, as well as near the TVA's Chattanooga offices.
The drill will be followed by a graded exercise in November, and results will be shared in a Department of Homeland Security public meeting.
