Mother arrested after child was caught begging for fake field trip

Posted: Updated:
WBIR -- A mother was charged with child neglect after Morristown police caught her begging for a fake field trip with her 6-year-old daughter and an unidentified man.

Witness said a man, Joslynn M. Munsey, and her daughter were going door-to-door in Lakemore subdivision on Friday, asking for money to help pay for a school field trip to Disney World. When police questioned Munsey, the 23-year-old mother apparently gave them a false identity because a warrant was out for her arrest in Hamblen County, according to a Morristown police report.

Officers said the 6-year-old's teacher said there wasn't a trip to Disney World.

The teacher also told police that the 6-year-old fell off the monkey bars recently, and the school nurse thought she broke her arm. The nurse asked Munsey to take the child to the doctor, but the mother never did. The child said her wrist still hurt, and she hadn't been to the doctor when police spoke with her on Friday.
