UPDATE: Football season a time to "tackle" hunger with the Chattanooga Area Food Bank

UPDATE: This week several schools really turned out to help families in need in our community. 

The Tackle Hunger Food Drive was held at two different games Friday night.

Red Bank and Hixson worked together to collect more than 1, 800 pounds of food or about 1,500 meals. 

Silverdale Academy and Grace worked together to collect nearly 2,000 pounds of food which will provide more than 2,300 meals. 

All of those donations will go to the food bank, as part of WRCB's Annual Share Your Christmas. 


PREVIOUS STORY: The Chattanooga Area Food Bank is teaming up with area high schools during football season to "tackle" hunger.There are two food drives this week, one will be at the Silverdale/Grace game and the other will be at the Hixson/Red Bank game. 

Students, faculty and fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game.   Totals will be announced at half time.  

Here is a list of the most needed items: 
  • Canned fruits/vegetables
  • Cornmeal
  • Flour
  • Grits
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Canned meats (tuna, chicken)
  • Dry beans
  • Fruit/vegetable juice
  • Oats
  • Peanut butter
  • Soups
