Hutcheson Medical Center employees, patients and physicians and North Georgia residents announced Tuesday they will fight the attempted foreclosure by the Erlanger Health System with the Save Hutcheson community initiative.

Each year, Hutcheson Medical Center serves more than 87,000 patients who, without Hutcheson, would have to travel to Chattanooga or Rome in order to receive healthcare.

During a press conference at the hospital, residents urged the community to speak out and support the hospital's survival by volunteering and attending three public hearings to be held in Catoosa, Walker and Dade Counties in November.

“My daughter most likely would not have made it if Hutcheson's doors had been closed to her when she had a severe allergic reaction. Fifteen extra minutes of driving to another hospital would have been too late. Our loved ones need readily-available healthcare when minutes matter, and I thank God for Hutcheson and the emergency department staff that saved my daughter's life,” said  Stephanie Butcher, a North Georgia resident.

Hutcheson Medical Center has been integral to the North Georgia community as one of the largest employers in the tri-county area. Hutcheson provides 900 local jobs to citizens throughout Walker, Catoosa and Dade Counties.

“Besides eliminating quality local healthcare and critical daily emergency care for North Georgia citizens, Hutcheson's closing will terminate thousands of jobs and reap a devastating impact on our local economy,” said Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell.

North Georgia residents are urging the community to attend three upcoming public hearings in support of the community hospital.  The first hearing will be held Tuesday, November 11 from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Catoosa County Civic Center Auditorium.

The second hearing will be held Thursday, November 13 from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center Auditorium. The final hearing will be held Tuesday, November 18 from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Dade County Administrative Building.
