MURRAY COUNTY, GA (WRCB) - A Murray County jury has convicted a 29-year-old man in the Christmas Day killing of his mother's boyfriend.

John Phillips faces up to 10 years in prison.  After more than an hour of deliberating, the jury found Phillips guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the beating death of 62-year-old Tommy Walraven.

Witnesses testified during the trial, Phillips had been heavily drinking when he got into an argument with Walraven.

Phillips will be back in court in November for sentencing.
