Car dealer wants thief to "trust Jesus" after stealing truck

RED BANK, TN (WRCB) -  A local car dealer is taking a different approach to catch a car thief.

"Whoever stole our truck last week... We love you. Trust Jesus." That's the message greeting cars driving down Dayton Blvd. in Red Bank on Thursday.

The sign sits in the same spot a green 1997 Ford F150 once sat at I-Deal Motors. But, like the sign says -- someone got away with it last week.

"My first thought was, you wanna go for the throat," laughed owner Bob Snipes. "But then I got thinking about it and said, no, Jesus would go for the heart. So I'd rather go for the heart."

This isn't the first time Snipes has dealt with a stolen vehicle at his car lot. He's learned there's a better way to deal with it.

"We can be angry about a lot of stuff, but it doesn't help," said Snipes' daughter, Tasha Pitt. She noticed the truck missing when she got to work. Bars were bent and the sign was dragged out of the way.

Although the lot has cameras, they weren't recording that night.

"I think it's somebody who had to get a fix for something, you know. Had to have money fast," she said.

But the dad and daughter want the thief to know that they aren't mad. They want whoever took the truck to get the help they need.

"There are people out there who are willing to help," said Pitt. "You can be forgiven."

Snipes hopes the thief has seen the sign by now. Although it would be nice getting the truck back, he said he doesn't want the person going to jail.

"I'd like to sit down and talk to the person. Really, one on one," he said. "They can call me and even remain anonymous if they want, because it's more important to win their heart."
