Executive Director of Bessie Smith Cultural Center replaced

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - The fallout from the Bessie Smith Strut theft continues.  The cultural center is now looking for a new director.

Rose Martin is no longer in charge at the center.

Board Chairman Jeffrey Wilson confirmed to Channel 3 that Martin is no longer at the Center.

Martin was director at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center during the Strut.  The Center lost tens of thousands of dollars in a burglary the night of the event, back in June.

Torrey Hines admitted to stealing about $42,000 in cash. An audit later revealed the money was left in a locked office drawer, uncounted, with the key stored in an open safe that wasn't locked.

Former Chairman of the Board, Irvin Overton, has stepped in as interim director.
