Local youth soccer team wins top division in Birmingham Bash tournament
The CFCA 04 Premier Girls opened play with a 1-0 win over Trussville United on Saturday morning. In their second game the CFCA Girls played Birmingham United Soccer Association 04 Elite North to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning in the semi-finals the CFCA girls won a hard fought 1-0 game over Bartlett Soccer Club from west Tennessee. The final was a rematch of the CFCA 04 Premier Girls and BUSA 04 Elite North on Sunday afternoon. The final was scoreless at half with CFCA finally getting the breakthrough goal by Isabella White just after halftime to go up 1-0. CFCA added another goal by Bailie Dull with about five minutes left in the game to lock up a 2-0 win.
White had 3 goals for the tournament. Two were game-winners and the other was game-tying. Caroline Upchurch had the game-winning goal in the semi-final and Dull also had one goal. Gracen Brewster had 3 shutouts at goalkeeper and the defense as a whole only gave up one goal all weekend. The CFCA 04 Premier Girls are coached by Robert Wright.
The 12-person team consists of 10 and 11 year old select soccer players from 8 public and private schools in the Tennessee Valley area.
