Murphy man arrested for kidnapping and shooting a woman

MURPHY, NC (WRCB) - The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office arrested 40-year-old Roger Jason Beavers of Murphy on charges stemming from a domestic incident in the Martins Creek area.

The Cherokee Communications Center received a call for assistance because of an individual at the residence had been shot.

Upon officers arrival it was determined that the incident was from a domestic dispute where Beavers had shot the female victim with a small caliber weapon.  

Beavers was arrested at the scene and brought to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he made his initial appearance before the Cherokee County Magistrate. Beavers was charged with Assault With a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury With The Intent to Kill, Kidnapping, Assault on a Female, Simple Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance, and Interfering with Emergency Communications. 

Beavers was detained on no bond for a mandatory period of 48 hours due to the domestic nature of the charges. Upon the end of the mandatory 48 hours the Cherokee County Magistrate set a total of $76,000. 

Beavers is currently detained at the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a October 21 District Court date. The incident remains under investigation.
