Fleischmann, Headrick duel in rematch

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON — The last time Republican U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann went up against Dr. Mary Headrick at the polls, Fleischmann notched a lopsided, 26-point victory over the Democratic challenger.

Though the two-term congressman predicts another big win during his rematch with Headrick on Nov. 4, he insists he's not taking anything for granted.

“It's a tremendous privilege — for me, it's the privilege of a lifetime — to be a member of Congress and represent the great people of the 3rd District of Tennessee,” Fleischmann said. “I will never take a vote or voters for granted.”

Fleischmann, who crushed Headrick just two years ago, is the odds-on favorite going into the final stretch of their rematch to represent the 3rd Congressional District, a sprawling area that takes in Chattanooga and some of the surrounding counties, then stretches northward to include Oak Ridge and a cluster of counties near the Kentucky border.
