Wingord Advances to Flight 1 Finals at the Baras Tennis Classic
CHATTANOOGA, TN (GoMocs.com)-- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior Nick Wingord led the Mocs on Day 2 of the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic at the Champions Club today. Wingord advanced to the main draw finals in singles and doubles action.
Wingord, a junior transfer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, by way of Abilene Christian University, posted a win over Dylan Gee in the semifinals of Flight 1 singles. He defeated one of Jacksonville State's top players (6-4, 6-2) to advance to tomorrow's finals. He will face JSU's Pedro Wagner on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
Wingord also teamed with junior Luke Saunders in the Fight 2 doubles bracket. They scored and 8-6 win over Tennessee's Sunay Bhat and Bartosz Sawicki. They will face a split team of Belmont's Hans Nardelli and EKU's Daridge Saidi in tomorrow's finals at 8:30 a.m.
Sophomore Austin Boaz and junior Gino Delavalle scored wins in consolation action. Delavalle is in the finals of the Flight 3 consolations. He faces Belmont's Caio Niel at 10:00 a.m.
Freshmen Mason Grear and Michael Birnbaum had the other win on the day. They defeated Covenant College's Chris Cox and Michael O'Brien 8-4 in the Flight 4.
